News Researcher for Archaeologica

Background: Archaeological Legacy Institute (ALI) is a nonprofit organization based in Eugene.  Our streaming-media website, The Archaeology Channel (www.archaeologychannel.org; TAC), is a highly popular website relating to archaeology and the human cultural heritage, with annual traffic of more than one million page views.   ALI produces a weekly news podcast, the Audio News from Archaeologica; a monthly cable TV show, Strata: Portraits of Humanity; and The Archaeology Channel International Film Festival, an annual cultural event in downtown Eugene.  ALI operates Archaeologica.org, a leading archaeology news website.  With numerous opportunities for growth as an Internet media and public outreach organization, ALI needs to expand its volunteer work force in order to take advantage of these opportunities.  Some volunteers may become our employees, depending upon their productivity and effectiveness.

Hourly Commitment:  5-10 hours per week.

Job Purpose: To compile news stories for posting on the Archaeologica website

Description: Our News Researcher for Archaeologica will find and compile news story links from online research.  This includes regularly reviewing a list of news story outlets, identifying appropriate stories, and listing them in a Google Sheet for posting on Archaeologica.  We have one News Researcher now, but one more will ensure that we never fall behind.

This is a chance to help accelerate the progress of a dynamic and growing nonprofit enterprise.  You will be joining a dynamic and innovative team on a mission to create a unique media organization with worldwide influence.  Your help here will have a direct impact on ALI's productivity and ability to pursue its public mission.  The experience you gain will be directly transferable to other technical positions you may seek in the future.

Key Responsibilities: Actively pursue online news stories relating to archaeological and cultural heritage research.  Following our guidance and protocols, list pertinent stories in a Google Sheet designed for the purpose.  Stay in close contact with supervisors and other team members involved with Archaeologica and our Audio News weekly podcast, which relies on stories appearing in Archaeologica.

Requirements: We prefer people who have interest and understanding about archaeology, as judgement is needed in selecting stories to list.  We will train you in the day-to-day tasks so that you can take them on yourself with confidence.  Can be local or remote.

To Apply: Contact Dr. Richard Pettigrew by telephone (345-5538) or e-mail (rick@archaeologychannel.org).  A resume is required.
