Opportunity Details

Boys & Girls Club of Western Lane County (Florence) Day of Caring

We need volunteers to help us do a deep clean of the Boys & Girls Club Teen Center.  That includes washing windows, cleaning baseboards, bathroom floors, wiping walls.  We also need volunteers to help us trim hedges, pull weeds, and lay down bark mulch.  Come join the Boys & Girls Club Board of Directors and staff.

WHY DOES IT MATTER?

The Boys & Girls Club is in session when school is out all year round.  We literally only have 2 week windows during the entire year where we are not open during the calendar year.  That is the time we retool our curriculum and programs to meet the specific needs of kids in our community.  Because of the amount of traffic at our CLUB, we need to do a deep clean as we go into the new School year.  In Florence, affordable housing and childcare has reached a critical point.  61% of our kids are from low-income families.  Currently, we have 17 families with 21 kids that receive Program Sponsorships because they can't afford childcare.  We never turn a child away because of money.  These families average income is $1,364 a month.  The average expense is $1,348 a month.  Six families only source of income is Social Security Disability, Food Assistance, and Temporary Housing Assistance.

WHAT WE DO

The Boys & Girls Club of Western Lane County is a Rural youth development agency dedicated to inspiring and enabling youth ages 6 to 18, especially those who need us the most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.  We serve approximately 500 kids per year through 8 programs.  The Boys & Girls Club fills the gap between school and home, where kids need us the most.  Our Club provides safe, welcoming, positive environments in which kids and teens have fun, participate in life-changing programs and build supportive relationships with peers and caring adults.  Our Goal: Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyle.
