Event Planning Specialist

Background: Archaeological Legacy Institute is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization based in Eugene.  Our streaming-media Web site, The Archaeology Channel (www.archaeologychannel.org; TAC), has become the world’s most popular Web site relating to archaeology and the human cultural heritage, with annual traffic of more than one million page views.   ALI also produces The Archaeology Channel International Film and Video Festival, an annual cultural event in downtown Eugene.  We currently work out of a home office and are looking to move into commercial office space.  ALI has numerous opportunities for unlimited growth as an Internet media and public outreach organization and needs to expand its volunteer work force in order to take advantage of these opportunities.  Some of our volunteers may become our employees, depending upon their productivity and effectiveness.

Hourly Commitment:  5-10 hours per week.

Job Purpose: To take charge of all aspects of ALI’s event planning

Description: Our Event Planning Specialist is responsible for planning events from the conceptual phase to the conclusion of the event.  This includes following contractual stipulations, tracking all guests, vendors, entertainment, etc.  In short, planning and executing a successful event.   For example, we now are organizing The Archaeology Channel Conference on Cultural Heritage Media at the Hilton Eugene and Conference Center.   We definitely need someone to focus on that task.

This is a chance to help accelerate the progress of a dynamic and growing nonprofit enterprise.  You will be joining a dynamic and innovative team on a mission to create a unique media organization with worldwide influence.  Your help here will have a direct impact on ALI's productivity and ability to pursue its public mission.  And the experience you gain will be directly transferable to other technical positions you may seek in the future.

Key Responsibilities: Organizing and communication for coordination with many different groups.  Keeping detailed records for tracking different aspects of an event.  Overseeing support and volunteer staff.  Following contractual obligations.

Requirements: We prefer people who have interest and some experience in event planning.  The more experience in this area the better, of course.  We will train you in the day-to-day tasks so that you can take them on yourself with confidence.  Must be local.

To Apply: Contact Dr. Richard Pettigrew by telephone (345-5538) or e-mail (rick@archaeologychannel.org).  A resume is required.
