Rock the Block

Rock the Block calls all neighbors, homeowners and renters, to be outside together, working in the yard, and having fun! The event will focus on exterior home repair projects and street clean-up within the city limits of Florence, OR!

Who: Young Professionals, College Students, Local Companies, Churches, Individuals, Friends, Neighbors, YOU!

What: Rock the Block is a neighborhood clean-up day with exterior home repair and maintenance projects, such as painting and landscaping.

Where: We will meet at the Florence Habitat for Humanity Office Parking Lot 2004 Hwy 101

On September 20th and 22nd, 2018, Habitat will be teaming up with Florence Environmental Management Advisory Committee for the United Way Day of Caring to conduct exterior home repairs and a neighborhood clean-up project. In addition to FHFH’s exterior home repair projects, the combined organizations are calling all neighbors to help Rock the Block in their neighborhood! Rock the Block is a neighborhood clean-up day with exterior home repair and maintenance, such as painting, landscape clean up and general debris removal.

This year’s event is Thursday, September 20th and Saturday, September 22, 2018, from 9 am – 3:30 pm.

Interested homeowners in Rock the Block should print and complete a Rock the Block application form. Completed applications can be mailed to FHFH PO Box 3302, Florence OR 97439. All Rock the Block applications must be received no later than 4pm on Friday, August 31st to be considered for the event. Applicants must be the homeowner, own a home in need of minor exterior repairs, income within 30% to 80% of the area median income, and willingness to serve alongside volunteers during the Rock the Block event on September 20, 2018.

While we will be limited in the number of homes we can serve, all neighbors are encouraged to participate. Rock the Block calls all neighbors, homeowners and renters, to be outside together, working in the yard, maintaining their homes, and having fun. In addition to exterior home repair projects, volunteers will support a neighborhood trash pick-up effort. A large dumpsters will be available for trash drop-off. Neighbors are welcome to use of the dumpsters for trash removal (dumpsters can even accept large appliances, and tires). Our ReStore will be collecting used Paint. Rock the Block events serve as an extension of Habitat for Humanity’s neighborhood revitalization initiative. The emphasis of this program is to help homeowners in specific neighborhoods with minor exterior home repairs such as painting and landscape clean up. Habitat for Humanity is now seeking volunteers to help spearhead the exterior repair initiative.
