Scotch Broom Pull - Georgia Pacific Pond

Nestled between the McKenzie and Willamette rivers, the City of Springfield is a great place to live and recreate. Springfield’s Stream Team works to improve water quality and wildlife habitat by planting native species, removing invasive plants, and picking up litter along our waterways. The Stream Team is a fun way to get to know your urban ecology, meet new people, and get outside!

For Day of Caring, we will be pulling Scotch Broom, an invasive plant, from around the Georgia Pacific Pond. This pond is along the Mill Race path. Park at the Jasper Road Trailhead, then follow the signs to where we will be working. The seeds of Scotch broom are viable in the soil for up to 60 years, thus every plant we pull is important!

Please wear closed-toed shoes and socks, and long pants, to the event and come dressed to pull weeds and for the weather. We will use hand saws, loppers, and weed wrenches to remove the Scotch broom. Tools, gloves, snacks, and water will be provided. We will provide instruction on how to identify and remove the broom. There will be blackberries around as well so be prepared!
